The Orchard

The Orchard 2023 End of Season

I should of done this sooner but had so many other things going on with the livestock that I just let it slip. Some of the trees are losing their leaves already and some are getting ready to do the same. The trees are still a bit young but thanks to a wet winter we got some decent results. The apples were the best producing tree. Had a fair amount of pears. The plums showed up a little bit and then disappeared fairly quickly. I think the birds got them, so next season netting is going up. Saw a couple nectarines but they got damaged by the birds as well. No peaches though, not sure but maybe due to a lack of bees in the area to assist with pollination.

There are some pictures of pinetrees that are in the chicken area. We lost a couple of them for some reason. One friend thinks there might have been something in the soil there that they did not like.

You can see some piles I have to clean up yet. I cleared a bunch of bark and weeds (can’t let the goats near the trees they are rough on them). I am getting ready to run irrigation pipe so I can control the watering alot better and be consistant. I will then place bark back in there where it will do the most good. I also want to eventually have a garden at the end of the back orchard. I have fenced that whole back area off from the goats so they can have the middle area for munching on weeds and grass.
